Overview

The Coffee & Breaks Catering Captain coordinates and oversees the production and execution of all Coffee & Breaks services of the catering department to ensure proper execution and ensure guest satisfaction.

 

This position requires the ability to work weekdays and weekends, with availability for some mornings, noon, and evenings shifts on an on-call/event based schedule. 

 

This role will pay an hourly wage within the range of $20 to $21 plus tips

Responsibilities

  • Independently produces all Coffee, Beverage, and Break food items for all Catering Services & products are brewed and prepared to food safety and quality standards for service.
  • When staff is available: Oversees the delegation of tasks to staff assigned to the coffee & breaks team daily, setting clear expectations for service and conducting training and performance reviews as necessary.
  • Ensures Coffee & Beverage refills and refreshes are produced in a timely manner as determined by the BEOs.
  • Maintains an accurate log of all Coffee & Beverage Consumption Rates for each event as determined by the Catering Sales Manager.
  • Ensures that appropriate quantities of china, glassware, coffee, beverages, creamer options, tea, and other items are available for upcoming events. Secure requisitions for those items not available in inventory with the Executive Kitchen Steward and Warehouse Inventory Associate.
  • Checks room set-up prior to event and meets with the banquet team to confirm quantities of snack and break food items and timing of food leaving the kitchen.
  • Ensures proper handling of all equipment (i.e. china, glassware, silverware, linen, and props) and their proper cleaning and storage after use.
  • Conducts random audits during functions to evaluate food and beverage service. Ensures that: coffee and food is served at appropriate temperature; food and beverages are placed and labeled properly on the table; sufficient quanity of beverages are available.
  • Maintains an up to date BEO Binder: regularly reviews catering schedule for changes, calendar of events, and special events.
  • Reviews assigned coffee & break staff functions and menus prior to the scheduled event as defined by the BEO (Banquet Event Order).
  • Conducts pre-shift meetings with coffee & break specific staff to: ensure appearance and hygiene standards are being met; assign stations and partners; and review BEO expectations (Banquet Event Orders).
  • Communicates with the FOH Operations Manager, Executive Chef, Banquet Supervisor, Bar & Concessions Supervisor, and other Banquet Captains  to ensure that all details have been planned for and met. Ensures that changes and further instructions are made in a timely manner.
  • Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Experience overseeing and managing a small team of employees.
  • Ability to work early mornings, weekdays and weekends, with availability for some evenings shifts. 
  • Ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, volunteers, management staff and guests in a clear, business-like and respectful manner which focuses on generating a positive, enthusiastic and cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write in English may be required in order to perform the duties of the job (e.g. the associates may be required to communicate with English speaking customers or co-workers, the manuals for the equipment the associates may use are in English).
  • Bilingual in Spanish preffered.
  • Must meet state age requirements for handling alcoholic beverages.
  • Posses current State Food Handlers Certification from ServeSafe or willingness to immediately obtain
