Overview

SUMMARY:

The Utility Woker’s role encompasses a range of responsibilities, including but not limited to janitorial, housekeeping, and event/room set-up tasks, as directed by either the Event Operations manager, assistant Event Operations Manager and/or the Event Operations Supervisors. In addition to these core duties, utility workers may be tasked with maintaining cleanliness and orderliness in MBCC, ensuring the proper disposal of waste, replenishing cleaning supplies, and promptly addressing any cleanliness-related concerns. They may also collaborate with other team members to support the seamless execution of events, ensuring that venues are set up and arranged according to specified guidelines. The utility worker is expected to contribute to the overall functionality and visual appeal of the facilities they service, playing a vital role in creating a welcoming and organized environment.

 

This role will pay an hourly rate $16.00

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts daily janitorial tasks across diverse areas such as restrooms, lobbies, meeting rooms, ballrooms, exhibit halls, and the entire MBCC campus.
  • Undertakes a comprehensive range of duties, including but not limited to sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, window/glass cleaning, stainless steel polishing, and trash removal, as per directives from the Event Operations Supervisor/Manager.
  • Utilizes mechanical equipment proficiently to ensure the cleanliness of terrazzo, concrete, and carpet floor surfaces is maintained at optimal levels.
  • Observes, identifies, and promptly addresses any problematic areas or tasks, communicating them to the attention of the Event Operations Supervisor.
  • Assumes responsibility for the setup and breakdown of tables, chairs, staging, and various event equipment, ensuring seamless execution of events.
  • Takes care of equipment usage and maintenance to guarantee its longevity and efficient functionality.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or equivalent desired.
  • Knowledge of basic janitorial and basic standard meeting room set-ups.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to follow both, written and verbal directives provided by Supervisors.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as a team member.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform under pressure.
  • Capable of lifting and/or moving items weighing up to 25 pounds.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • No certifications are required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the Utility Worker Job. The employee is constantly required to exert various types of physical exertion, such as prolonged reaching, bending, kneeling, and lifting. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

While performing the responsibilities of the Utility Worker, these work environment characteristics are representative of the environment the Utility Worker will encounter. The Utility Worker works in indoor and outdoor work settings with mild to adverse exposure to environmental hazards.  The incumbent must be able to climb stairs and ladders and walk long distances to access all areas of the facility. The noise level in the work environment is usually mild to loud. Incumbents in this position work in varying settings and will be subject to noise and atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odor, dust, etc.
