Overview

The Cook 2 is responsible for preparing food to be served to guests across Banquet, Buffet, and Concessions style services at an intermediate level. Individuals in this role have the knowledge and ability to use all kitchen equipment without restrictions. Cook 2 professionals possess intermediate culinary skills that enable them to prepare food items with minimal supervision, although they may require some guidance when creating recipes. The Cook 2 will frequently interact with the public in areas such as Action Stations and buffet lines, where they may slice meats or prepare dishes to order.

This role will pay an hourly rate of $18 to $20.

Responsibilities

  • Possesses intermediate culinary skills and ability to execute, at a higher standard, the tasks required in knife work, preparing, cooking soups, sauces, meats, eggs, dairy products, hot foods, sandwiches, vegetables, salads, salad dressing, fruits, pastries, desserts, and breads.
  • Possesses intermediate culinary understanding of plating techniques and standards.
  • Is able to create meals and prepare food items according to a recipe with little to no assistance.
  • Is able to work independently or with very minimal oversight and instruction by Lead Cooks, Supervisors, Sous Chefs, or Executive Chef
  • Continued growth and initiative to improve upon culinary skills on a day to day basis by seeking knowledge from those in higher positions.
  • Is able to perform all opening and closing responsibilities within the kitchen independently
  • Possess the knowledge and ability of how to operate, clean, and maintain all pieces of kitchen equipment including the Dishwasher, Stove Top, Tilt Skillets, Grills, Rotating Oven, Fryers, Slicer, etc.
  • Always carries a thermometer while working and regular checks the temperature of food product as cooking and during storage.
  • Possesses a strong understanding of the Temperature Danger Zone and cooking temperatures of different meats and produce items to ensure Food Safety Standards.
  • Ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, volunteers, management staff and guests in a clear, business-like and respectful manner which focuses on generating a positive, enthusiastic and cooperative work environment.
  • Washes culinary and service dishes and utensils; cleans tables, walls, and floors, maintains the general cleanliness of the kitchen, and stocks food and other items using correctly written date labels.
  • Has an active State Food Handlers Certification, and actively updates as necessary.
  • Responsible for other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work weekdays and weekends, with availability for some morning, noon, and evening shifts on an on-call/event-based schedule.
  • Must provide regular and consistent written availability to management.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Food Handlers Card from ServeSafe, and other required compliance trainings.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with employees, management, and guests in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Physical ability to lift and move heavy objects, such as boxes and equipment.
