Overview

The Ice Operations Supervisor performs a variety of skilled activities involved in the operation and maintenance of the facility’s ice floor, ice equipment, ice tools, and general operations. This position will also be responsible for managing the gameday Ice Crew for all WHL games and scheduling Zamboni Operators for all venue needs.

 

This role pays an hourly rate of $26 to $28.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain ice to WHL standards for games, practices, and special events.
  • Oversee installation of the main hockey ice at Angel Of The Winds Arena as well as the Community Ice Rink. This includes floor prep, freezing, floor painting, base color lines and logos, building ice depth, and ice removal.
  • Hire, train, and schedule gameday Ice Crew
  • Hire, train, and schedule Zamboni Operators ensuring we have coverage for all events in the Main Arena and Community Ice Rink.
  • Ensure ice is properly prepared for all practices, games and other ice events. Duties include removing debris, checking ice depth, edging and resurfacing the ice.
  • Assist with the setup and maintenance of hockey glass and dasher walls, benches, netting, goals, kickplates, doors, ramps, etc.
  • Monitor temperature and humidity levels alongside the Engineering Department to ensure proper game and practice conditions are met.
  • Complete daily facility reports.
  • Operate and maintain ice conditioning equipment.
  • Work with stakeholders to schedule and plan for various on ice events including home and away team practices, Community Ice Rink events, team special events, gameday promotions, etc.
  • Assist with Arena conversions as needed.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in with ice operations.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in supervision of others/work crews.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of all facets of ice arena equipment: Zamboni, ice edger, dasher boards, nets, glass, doors, hardware, and rubber
  • Ability to oversee and direct staff in performance of ice maintenance.
  • Capable of working nights, weekends and holidays, as well as extended hours when needed.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and function under stress.
  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements.

Licenses/Special Requirements:

  • Zamboni operator experience is required
  • Valid Driver’s License is required
  • Forklift certification is preferred
