Overview

The Food & Beverage Internship is an exciting opportunity to spend the football season up close and personal with the Food and Beverage operations for UConn Football. This internship will begin in August and last into December. The intern will observe, work with, and learn from our hospitality group supporting Pratt and Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field.  

 

This role pays an hourly rate of $20.00

 

This position will remain open until October 3, 2025.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direct supervision of the Food & Beverage Manager, the candidate will receive instruction in the planning, scheduling, and supervising of an effective, safe, and profitable food and beverage department. 
  • The candidate will experience and gain understanding of the day-to-day operation for concessions, premium and catering with a primary focus on Uconn football.
  • Gain hands on experience for game day operations including supervising and assisting volunteer staff, learning opening and closing procedures and live event troubleshooting within assigned area. 
  • The candidate will also support the Food and Beverage Manager in the day-to-day operation of the Food & Beverage Department, including learning and operating the POS system, learning inventory software and inventory control, receiving orders, and assisting with preparing for upcoming events. 
  • Attend event operations planning meetings and interact with other departments, vendors and client personnel to gain understanding of the full operation and how the Food & Beverage Department's role fits into a successful event. 
  • The ideal candidate will have an interest in, as well as prior experience in, the planning and scheduling of employees. 
  • Additionally, experience with inventory management and familiarity with the state food safety and state liquor laws pertaining to the storage, handling, and preparation and the dispensing of food and beverages. 

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, the ideal candidate will:

  • Be a self-starter and self-motivated.
  • Must be comfortable working in an extremely busy environment.
  • Have experience in retail, catering, concessions, and/ or alcohol service to the public in a hospitality setting is highly.recommended.
  • The individual must be outgoing, energetic, motivated & professional.
  • Team player with excellent customer service and analytical skills
  • Proven ability to solve time-sensitive issues.
  • Possesses good organizational skills.
  • Proactive in making suggestions, creating new ideas & trouble shooting while paying close attention to detail.
  • Prior experience with point of sales systems,
  • SERV Safe Certification, preferred.
