Overview

Overview: Under general direction from the Building Systems Manager and/or Director of Operations the Building Systems Technician performs duties associated with the maintenance and repair of the venues mechanical operating systems.

 

This role pays an annual salary of $55,000 CAD - $75,000 CAD.

This position will remain open until October 31, 2025. 

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the overall daily operation and maintenance of the mechanical systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing etc…) at the South Okanagan Events Centre, Okanagan Hockey Group Training Centre, Penticton Trade & Convention Centre and Memorial Arena
  • Perform skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance of the facilities mechanical equipment
  • Work from general instructions and specifications, with minimal supervision
  • Operate a wide variety of equipment used in the maintenance of the facility such as high lifts, fork lifts, ladders, drills, torches, saws, grinders etc…
  • Ensure assign tasks have been completed in a timely manner according to department and venue standards
  • Maintain detailed records of work completed
  • Receive and maintain supplies
  • Maintain storage areas and equipment in designated areas in a neat and orderly manner
  • Work effectively in a service oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities
  • Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with those contacted in the course of work: staff, contractors, facility users…
  • Work a flexible schedule including early mornings, days, evenings, overnight, weekends, holidays, extended (long) work days and extended number of days
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications:

 

  • Completion of Grade 12
  • Specialized training and/or diploma in HVAC maintenance or other related venue mechanical operating system(s)
  • 2–4 years’ experience in general maintenance and repair of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and other related venue mechanical systems
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to function in fast-paced, constantly changing, high pressure environment
  • Demonstrate attention to detail
  • Familiarity of Windows based computer programs
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Familiarity with WorkSafe BC, BC Safety Authority and CSA standards and regulations as related to facilities
  • Knowledge of fire and public safety regulations


Physical Demands:

While performing duties of this job, employee is required to stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders; work from heights; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach within hands and arms; talk and hear. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
