Overview

Utilizing independent judgment, the Sr. Operations Manager supervises and coordinates the day-to-day operations of the facilities, including set-up/changeovers. Provides planning, direction, and leadership to subordinates, assuring the highest quality service program. Ensures an effective and cost-efficient program by controlling departmental operating budget. Provides highly responsible staff assistance to the General Manager/AGM/Director of Operations.

 

This role pays an annual salary of $50,000-$75,000 CAD

Responsibilities

Job Functions:

  • Oversee the daily operation and maintenance of the SOEC
  • Plan, direct and coordinate the set-up and tear down of facility equipment for all events and hockey games
  • Provide management of services and personnel involved in event and hockey game setup/tear down operations for the facility
  • Assist in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities of assigned programs and functions
  • Ensure compliance with event worker orders and relevant building and fire code regulations
  • Ensure compliance with the departmental standards and reporting requirements
  • As directed, conduct a variety of industry related operational studies; recommend modifications to programs, policies, and procedures as appropriate; implement approved modifications
  • Maintain cost records of work performed, materials used and prepare cost estimates as requested; prepare accounting for services rendered that are to be used in event settlement
  • Assist in the development and administration of the Operations Department budget; forecast additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and obtain approval for all /setup related expenditures; receive and maintain supplies; make recommendations for, and implement approved budget adjustments as necessary
  • Oversee the hiring, training and scheduling of operations part time staff
  • Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for setup personnel; assign work activities, projects and programs; monitor work flow; inspect work product of subordinates to ensure accuracy and timeliness of completion; meet with staff to review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures and to identify and resolve challenges
  • Provide and coordinate staff training and safety programs; work with employees to correct deficiencies
  • Receive and maintain supplies
  • Maintain storage areas and equipment in designated areas in a neat and orderly manner
  • Periodically conduct inventory of all equipment
  • Operate a wide variety of equipment used in the daily operations of the facility such as high lifts, fork lifts, vans, housekeeping equipment etc…
  • Establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with those contacted in the course of work: staff, contractors, facility users…
  • Attend meetings representing the Operations department
  • Work effectively in a service oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities
  • Work a flexible schedule including early mornings, days, evenings, overnight, weekends, holidays, extended (long) work days and extended number of days
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 4+ years of increasing responsibility and experience in event setup in an arena, sports complex, convention centre, hotel or other public assembly facility.
  • Minimum of 4-6 years of supervisory responsibilities
  • Minimum High School Diploma or Equivalent. Post-secondary level education an added asset.
  • Knowledge and experience of operational activities at public assembly facilities including but not limited to event setup/change overs, venue maintenance, hockey operations, event presentation and production
  • Knowledge of fire and public safety regulations
  • Strong leadership qualities, with emphasis in working with and training “casual” staff
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain a current CPR/First Aid certificate
  • Possession of valid drivers license
  • Possession of or ability to obtain fork lift/high lift operators certification
  • Working knowledge of the proper use and maintenance of hand and power tools related to job functions
  • Familiar with terminology used in entertainment and convention settings
  • Knowledge of customer service practices
  • Must have computer skills in Microsoft office applications and word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation, and internet software

  • While performing duties of this job, employee is required to stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders; work from heights; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach within hands and arms; talk and hear.
  • Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
