Overview

The barback functions as part of a team and may need to handle customer service requests. Having good communication and interpersonal skills is essential to fulfilling the needs of team members and guests.

Effective communicators should practice active listening and respond efficiently to demands. Additionally, barbacks should maintain a friendly and professional demeanor with guests and team members.

 

This role will pay an hourly rate of $14.00 and is tip eligible

Responsibilities

  • Keep the bar stocked with liquor, syrups, glasses, napkins and all other necessary items before and during service hours using transfer forms and stand sheets.
  • Refill ice wells, change beer kegs and restock napkins and straws.
  • Clean up the spills, remove the glassware and organize stock.
  • Keep the bar area neat and clean.
  • Coordinate with managers, kitchen staff and security personnel to ensure efficient service to customers.
  • Before service: Barbacks may arrive early to organize liquor shelves and to prepare juices, mixers and garnishes. They also stock glasses, napkins, straws, toothpicks and other counter items.
  • During service: They monitor and replenish supplies such as liquor and bar items. Stock glasses, tools and mixing equipment. Additionally, they assist bartenders with tasks and customers with questions, requests and concerns.
  • After service: Barbacks help with breaking down the bar after service. Breaking the bar down includes cleaning counters, proper storage of supplies and serving equipment. Barbacks take out the trash or recycling, sweep and mop, appropriately handle and store stock and restock the bar for the following shift.
  • Barbacks must work efficiently and be responsive to the needs of the staff they support as well as their customers.
  • Demonstrates strong situational awareness by anticipating the needs of bartenders, coworkers, and guests.
  • Maintains assigned station by restocking supplies, providing support as needed, and promptly clearing and cleaning work areas.
  • Comfortable navigating crowded spaces while safely carrying glassware, plates, and other bar materials.
  • Thrives in a high-energy environment with significant social and physical demands.

Qualifications

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move quickly for extended periods.
  • Available to work flexible schedules, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Capable of performing physically demanding tasks, including lifting and transporting heavy items and standing for extended periods.
  • Capable of lifting and carrying heavy items, such as kegs and cases of beer.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to maintain a clean and well-stocked bar.
  • Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good communication skills and a friendly, positive attitude.
  • Experience in a bar or restaurant setting is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while managing responsibilities behind the bar and on the floor.
  • High School Diploma
  • At Least 18 Years of Age
