Overview

The Zamboni Operator will perform general labor duties as assigned. Duties included but are not limited to building conversions for various events and familiarity with all aspects of facility operations and maintenance in addition to ice making, ice maintenance, and repair. This position requires the use of computers and building management systems to monitor and adjust HVAC settings, refrigeration plant settings, and other facility operating systems. The Zamboni Operator will also be required to access event data sheets, schedules, work orders, and other operational information. A general aptitude and comfort with computers and technology is therefore essential. The position requires a high level of attention to detail, accountability, sound judgment, and the ability to follow established procedures and safety protocols. The Zamboni Operator must be able to work effectively in a changing and fast-paced environment, particularly during hockey games, concerts, and other major events when operational requirements may change quickly. The position requires effective communication and interpersonal skills to work with supervisors, coworkers, contractors, event staff, and other facility personnel. The Zamboni Operator must be able to prioritize tasks, respond appropriately to changing conditions, identify operational issues, and make timely decisions to support the safe and efficient operation of the facility.

 

This role pays an hourly rate of $25.00 - $30.26 CAD.

Responsibilities

  • Perform ice maintenance, including cleaning the ice after events, to present a high-quality ice sheet for OHL games, practices, and rentals. Includes ice installation, removal, daily and weekly maintenance, and resurfacing ice based on usage and need.
  • Respond to emergency situations and customer concerns as required.
  • Perform maintenance on rink systems, including dasher boards, netting, gates, and Plexiglas leveling.
  • Will perform maintenance and repairs of building equipment and its physical systems, including but not limited to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general construction tasks.
  • Work alone or with minimal supervision.
  • Adhere to all Oakview Group Policies and Procedures.
  • Comply with the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Assist in operating building systems to satisfy event and customer requirements.
  • Assist with work performed by outside contractors on the building, its physical systems, or its equipment.
  • Assist in completing maintenance, inspection, and repair records.
  • Assist with our operations department’s tasks and duties.
  • Perform HVAC duties for small to large concerts and events.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Operator/Special Projects Manager.

Qualifications

  • High school or vocational diploma required.
  • Experience in operation and maintenance of ice resurfacers and edgers. Experience in arenas, relating to hockey or other ice use, is essential.
  • Previous experience performing ice maintenance and installation/removal is an asset.
  • A valid Ontario driver’s license is required.
  • Must be able to work flexible and sometimes demanding schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • General mechanical aptitude is essential. Experience with using power and hand tools is an asset.
  • Understanding of HVAC control (Metasys) and refrigeration plant control (CIMCO 6000E) systems is an asset.
  • ORFA-designated Basic Refrigeration Certificate is an asset or willing to obtain at one's own expense within six months.
  • ORFA Certified Ice Technician designation is an asset.
  • Experience with RO systems as it pertains to arena ice making is an asset.
  • Experience with fast ice and level ice is an asset
