Overview

The Curling Centre Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operation, administration, and customer experience of the Curling Centre. This role provides leadership and oversight of all curling-related activities, ensuring the facility is safe, welcoming, well-maintained, and operated efficiently throughout the curling season. The Curling Centre Manager will work closely with curling clubs, leagues, members, teams, officials, volunteers, and community partners to coordinate schedules, programming, bookings, and day-to-day curling operations. The position will also work collaboratively with the Event Manager in the planning, coordination, and execution of non-curling events hosted within the Curling Centre. This includes supporting event planning, facility preparation, staffing, logistics, guest experience, and event-day operations to ensure successful delivery of a wide range of events.

 

This role pays an annual salary of $58,000 - $62,000 CAD.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the Curling Centre and all curling-related activities.
  • Coordinate curling schedules, league operations, ice bookings, bonspiels, practices, and special curling events.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for league reps, teams, members, officials, and facility users.
  • Support the development and delivery of curling programs, events, and initiatives designed to grow participation and enhance the customer experience.
  • Work with facility and maintenance teams to ensure ice, equipment, common areas, and curling spaces are properly prepared and maintained.
  • Manage and coordinate staffing, volunteers, and operational requirements associated with curling activities.
  • Monitor facility usage, bookings, revenues, expenses, and operational requirements.
  • Ensure established safety, operational, and customer service standards are consistently maintained.
  • Assist with marketing, promotion, and community engagement initiatives related to curling operations.
  • Work collaboratively with the Event Manager on the planning and execution of non-curling events hosted at the Curling Centre.
  • Support event planning, room/facility setups, staffing, logistics, client requirements, and event-day execution for non-curling events.
  • Contribute to creating a positive, professional, and welcoming experience for all users, guests, clients, and event organizers.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operations, increase facility utilization, grow revenue, and enhance the overall customer experience.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required to support the successful operation of the Curling Centre and overall venue.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of previous experience in curling operations, event management, hospitality, recreation, or a related field.
  • Post-secondary education in recreation, sport management, hospitality, business, event management, or a related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of curling operations, including leagues, tournaments, ice bookings, scheduling, and member/customer relations.
  • Proven ability to organize and manage multiple priorities in a busy, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with clubs, teams, members, clients, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a larger venue and operations team.
  • Must have a collaborative and team-oriented approach, with a willingness to support other departments and venue operations as required.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills, with the ability to remain calm and solutions-focused during busy event periods.
  • Experience managing staff and/or volunteers is required.
  • Experience with event scheduling, facility booking systems, budgets, point-of-sale systems, or other venue management software is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours during bonspiels and special events.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to safety, professionalism, and delivering a high-quality customer and guest experience.
  • A passion for curling, sport, community events, and creating positive experiences for facility users and guests is considered an asset.
